The International Center for Information Ethics (ICIE) was created in 1999 by Rafael Capurro. It began as a small group of friends and colleagues but very quickly developed into an international and intercultural platform including a community of over 300 members from all over the world.  In 2001 a cooperation agreement was set up with the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) (Karlsruhe, Germany) which provided a new design for the website as well as management support. ICIE organises and co-organises symposia since 2001/2002 and publishes a book series in cooperation with W. Fink Verlag, Munich-Paderborn (Germany). Since 2004 ICIE publishes the International Review of Information Ethics (IRIE)

ICIE was run by Jared Bielby (Canada) since 2018 hosted at https://www.i-c-i-e.org/

It moved in 2023 to Ibict (Brazil) under the leadership of Marco Schneider.
